Having your pet travel with you on flight is easier to arrange than most people are aware. At many ties, the cost of bring your companion with you is cheaper than it stays at the kennel and probably more enjoyable for your pet. Pet travel policies are fairly standard among the airlines. But each one does have some specific requirements. Check your airline’s specific polices and make sure you bring necessary dog supplies when traveling with your pet.
Proper planning for traveling with pets also includes a health certificate completed by your veterinarian. Most airlines accept pets in cabin. What you have to keep in mind is weight restriction. Usually it is maximum up to 20 pounds of your pet and carrier. Airlines limit the amount of pets preflight. So make sure you call ahead of time. Speaking of fees, it costs 100 dollars each way and some airlines charge more. The general rule of approved carriers is that they must fit under the seat. The pet travel carrier bag has to have breathable materials on at least two sides and a leak proof bottom. Every airline has its own regulations. So make sure you call ahead.
A good rule of selecting the proper size of a travel crate is that it can stand up, turn around, sit down and lie comfortably without touching the sides. In addition, the crate must be free of interior protrusions, handles or grips. It must also lock securely. The crate must have a solid bottom that is covered with plenty of absorbent materials. Airflow must not be impeded. So make sure the crate has proper ventilation.
When using your crate for the first time, label it with your pet’s name, your home phone and cellphone number. Also include destination addresses, phone numbers, name of emergency contact, any medical conditions or special nutritional needs you pet may have and a picture of your pet if possible.
Some airlines offer travel crate for sale right at the ticket counter. It is recommended you purchase yours a few months in advance. So your pet can get used to extended periods inside of it. Planning ahead for travel with your pet will prevent denial and additional delay at the checking counter. Nothing will make you feel more at home when reaching your destination and then having your pet with you.
