Are you thinking about getting a harness for your dog but you aren’t quite sure what style fit and function you want for your pooch? I am going to help you choose the right harness for your dog. Body harnesses are one of great dog products because they give you more control while being comfortable for your dog. Here is the breakdown on the three basic types and harnesses on the market right now.
First the back clip harness. This has a ring or rings on top of the dog’s back. For many dogs, this is the easiest type of harness for them to get used to. And best of all. Back clip harnesses keep the leash from tingling. This type of harness is especially useful for dogs that maybe like to pull on leash but has easily damage throat, such as this luminous dog harness. It is easy for your dog to wear. More importantly, it is much safer to walk your dog at night with this useful harness.
Front clip harnesses give you more control than traditional flat collars or back clip harnesses. This is a great type of harnesses that clips in front of the dog’s chest. This is really good for dogs that like to pull on leash. Or if you have a reactive or fearful dog, you can easily move them around to facing towards you or turn away from something that’s potentially scary. It is a great, non-harmful and very gentle way to easily redirector dogs’ attention and hinder them from pulling if they are a big puller.
If you need more control on walks, there is a third option I recommend for those really determined pullers. A tightening harness adds a little bit of pressure when the dog pulls. The slid tightening can be uncomfortable for your dog and help gently hinder pulling. Watch out because there are some harnesses that hinder pulling and stop jumping but they can be very uncomfortable for your pet. There are some that will cause the legs to not able to move as freely or they cause really sharp pain under the dog’s legs or stomach. Avoid those. It can also give your dog negative association with the environment or whatever’s going on around them when they are wearing them.
