Alex Cearns, an Australian photographer, is known for her animal, pet and wildlife photographs. During her first visit to Bali in 2010, she was shocked by the neglected animals in the island where she took pictures of its animals and later held an exhibition of 60 pictures of 50 species of those animals in Swan, Alfred Cove in 2012. Now this talented and warmhearted photographer captures heart-melting images of animals with different disabilities to highlight their determination when facing physical impairments.
Louie the one-eyed puppy and Smiley the puppy who was born without eyes
Savannah the rottweiler who lost her leg to cancer and Hannah the three-legged greyhound
In this photo series, Perfect Imperfection,
the photographer not only sticks to her subject about individual beauty, but also demonstrates their strong desire to live and indomitable fighting spirit to survive. Alex says when people are looking at a picture of a dog with three legs, she wants them to focus on the character of the tough animal instead of its physical impairment. Most of the disabled animals are tolerant and still head on regardless of what they are suffering. They give us so much inspiration to look on the bright side of our lives.
Rupert the kitten is missing his right front leg and Niamh the kitten had both eyes removed
Dog Tyson with a missing back leg and an unnamed dog had one of his legs amputated
Disabled animals are more likely to be abandoned or have a hard time being adopted. They are supposed to deserve more care and love from humans. However, many of them struggle to find a home. Alex says she was inspired by these brave animals that overcome the obstacles and show their determination. She wants her photo series to encourage people to pay attention these animals and help them find a new home. The good news is Alex’s photographs have helped many disabled animals find a home.
